Mrs. Betty Humphries Wilkes, 75, wife of Robert E. Wilkes, died Monday, January 27, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, after an illness.

Betty was born August 29, 1938, the oldest of two children, born to the late Elijah Leroy Matthews and Lydia Carmon Matthews in Florence County, SC. She was a graduate of J. C. Lynch High School and Florence-Darlington Technical College with an Associate's Degree in Business. Betty was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Grace & Glory Ministries, Coward. She worked as a Supervisor for several textile industries, with her last years of employment as a teacher for Florence-Darlington Tec.

Betty served the Lord all her years and had a deep and abiding love for the Lord, and a never-ending love for her family and friends. The love of the Lord always shined through to everyone who met her. She celebrated her 75 years of life, facing many medical adversities that few would have survived. Betty lived a happy life in the Lord with a strong faith and loved to sing praises to the Lord, as her granddaughter, Taylor said, "I'm sure they are all happy to see her in heaven, because I know they have heard about her"!

Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Carmon Matthews, who also died on January 27, 2014. Their home-going was just as close as their lives had been. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Arnette Spring, and her second husband, Cecil Humphries.
