He was born July 22, 1883 in Buffalo County to Henry and Ellen Dillon Lewis. He moved with his family to a homestead south of Litchfield and later went to Giltner to work.
He married Sarah Jane Juett June 14, 1905 at Aurora and farmed near Giltner until 1910. Mr. Lewis moved to another farm south of Litchfield, then farmed near Mason City. He retired in 1951 and moved to Grand Island.
Mr. Lewis was survived by his widow; three sons, Melvin of Litchfield and Charles and Richard of Grand Island; four daughters, Mrs. Stella VanMatre and Mrs. Mabel Burns of Mason City, Mrs. Violet Brundige of Rockville, and Mrs. Lilian Skutera of Loup City; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
