TUPELO – Leon Smith, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born in Saltillo on March 28, 1928, to Osbon and Ethel Davis Smith. On April 21, 1948, he married Agnes Willis and together began building a lifetime of memories. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. For several years, he was owner and operator of Leon Smith Trucking. Before he retired, he worked at Wrangler/VF Company. He was a member of Northeast Church of Christ.

A celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Leon Willis and Bro. Earl Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Agnes Willis Smith; three sons; Tommy Smith (Dyan), Tim Smith (Sheila) and James Smith; one daughter, Nita Johnson (Tom); five grandsons, Chris Smith (Dana), Ashley Haas (Courtney), Drew Smith, and Landon and Blake Smith; two granddaughters, Becky Tucker (Michael) and Tara Inman (Stan); three sisters, Earlene Dickerson, Patricia Putt and Mary Alice Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Yvonne Pettigrew.

Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Ashley Haas, Stan Inman, Michael Tucker, Drew Smith and Derik Rushing.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.
