Funeral Rites for VanOrnam This Forenoon - Death Claims Wartime Skipper of Federal "Mystery Ship"

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. today at the Mottell Chapel for Oscar F. Van Ornam, 57, who died Monday at his home, 17 Santa Barbara Avenue. Interment will be at Wilmington Cemetery.

Mr. Van Ornam was a former member of the Coast Guard, and during the World War he was skipper of a Government "mystery ship." He had lived in Long Beach for thirty-two years. He was a Thirty-second Degree Mason, a member of Long Beach Lodge No. 327. He also belonged to Long Beach Lodge No. 888, B.P.O.E., the Disabled Veterans of the United States and Chapter No. 17, Disabled American Veterans of the World War.

Van Ornam was known as one of the most able navigators of Pacific Coast waters. He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Abbey Castell, Long Beach; Mrs. Carrie Nichols, Brawley, and Mrs. Bessie Flack, Los Angeles.
