Frederick Huddleston

Frederick Huddleston, 93, of Kanawha City, died Feb. 4, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

He was a retired general manager of Independent Explosives in Hernshaw with 37-and-a-half years of service. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and attended Charleston Mountain Mission Church. He was a member of Inawebb Travel Club, was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Mabel Elkins Huddleston; brothers, Elswick, Walter and Murel Huddleston; sisters, Pam Horne and Lucille Spaulding; and granddaughter, Stephanie Atkins.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Mary Margaret Kirk Huddleston of Kanawha City; daughter, Cindy (Terry) Beard of Kanawha City; son, John (Lucritta) Tompkins of Sissonville; sister, Betty (Ray) Peek of Ana Cortes, Wash.; grandchildren, Billy Broughton of Florida, Mary Jones of Georgia, Ericka Atkins of Kanawha City and Tiffanie Tompkins of Chesapeake; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, with Pastor Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
