Educated at Kilkenny College.

Obtained a Commission in the 69th Regiment 12 June 1823 and subsequently served with the 54th, 39th, 4th King's Own and 86th Regiments - Lieutenant 9 July 1829. Captain 27 August 1842. 29th Regiment Captain 12 February 1845. 86th Foot, Major 20th June 1854.

Most of his service was spent in southern India.

On return from India 14th October 1857 (he and his wife left India in June 1867), he was appointed Fort Major Edinburgh Castle 15th October 1858. He died 8 June 1861, being then Brevet Lieut-Colonel and was buried in Warriston Cemetery, Edinburgh.

A.C.Anderson formerly Captain in H.M. 86th regiment of foot and Brigade Major of H.M. forces of Fort St.George Madras India but late Brevet Lieutenant Col.in H.M. service esquire. a widower died 08-06-1861 at Edinburgh Castle.
