DATA FROM DEATH CERTIFICATE:
Name: Elias Clevenger, Jefferson County, Tenn.
Birth: June 1, 1853
Death: Jan. 9, 1928
Informant: Harry H. Clevenger [son], Piedmont, South Carolina
Burial: Friendship
Undertaker: H. T. Sartin, White Pine, Tenn.

Elias Clevenger (same name as his grandfather) was a son of William Clevenger and Mary "Polly" Huff. William was a son of Elias Clevenger and Nancy Wood. Polly was a daughter of the Rev. John Huff and Nancy Allen. All were from Cocke County, Tenn.

William and Polly raised a family of 12 in Cocke County during mid-1800s. Their son Allen married Matilda Hammontree; they raised a family in Roane County. Most of William and Polly's children left for points west (Mo., Neb., etc.), and they may have, too, late in their lives. There appears to be no documentation of time and location of William and Polly's deaths, therefore no Find A Grave memorials.

In 1850 (census), William (44) and Polly (35) were living in Cocke County with these children: Syche/Sichey, Ruth(Rufus?), Elizabeth/Lizzie, John, Nancy, Sarah/Sally, William, Allen, James and Margaret.

In 1860 (census data), William (56) and Polly (48) were living in Cocke County with these children: Rufus, Elizabeth, John, Sarah, Winfield, Allen, James, Margaret, Elias, Lucinda, Mary and Emaline.

In 1878, Elias Clevenger and Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Smith married in Hamblen County, Tenn.

In 1900 (census data), Elias and Lizzie Clevenger were living in the Witt Community (near White Pine), Hamblen Co., Tenn., with these children: Walter, Atwater, Cornie, Allen, Harry, Mack and Porter.

In 1912, Cornie married H. H. Bell in Hamblen County. Social Security records indicate that she was born Sept. 28, 1888 and died June 1982 in Hamblen County.

Rico Clevenger, daughter of Elias Clevenger and Lizzie Smith, on Oct. 4, 1958 filed an application for a delayed birth certificate in the county of her birth, Hamblen Co. (Morristown), Tenn. Her birth date was listed as Sept. 9, 1898. At the time of the application, Rico was living in Washington County, Tenn., and married to Robert Walker Saxon. Social Security records indicate that Rico Clevenger Saxon died May 1978.
