Wilhelmena Witte was born in Germany April 26th, 1848. She came to America with her parents when she was but of three years of age, settling in Indiana. Later she came to Iowa.
She was united in holy wedlock with Henry Hargens in 1865. They came to Missouri Valley in December 1866 this being their home the remainder of their lives, her husband preceding her in death 8 years.
Three children came to bless this union. The daughter passed away at the age of 11 years. Two sons; Dr. C.W. Hargens and Emil Hargens both of Hot Springs, South Dakota survive. She is also survived by several grandchildren and two brothers.
Mrs. Hargens was a charter member of the Rebekah Lodge of our city, and the last of the charter members to go. The members of the lodge attended in a body.
The deceased was baptized into the Reform Church when a child. She passed away after a brief illness at her home on Tuesday Aug. 19, 1930 having reached the age of 82 years, 3 months and 23 days.
Funeral services were conducted from the late home on Third Street at 2:30 Thursday, Rev. H.G. Parker of the Methodist Church having charge. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery, the remains being placed by the side of that of her husband.
