Sally was the fifth of fourteen children born to Alexander Taylor More and Nancy Harley More. She was named for a sister, Sally More, who died in 1802. She resided at Roxbury where her father was a prominent farmer and orchardist. He was also instrumental in the building of a turnpike between Grand Gorge, New York and Catskill, New York.
