BROWNSDALE -- The funeral for Gretchen Esther Gabriel will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with the Rev. Daniel Czech officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale.
Mrs. Gabriel, 89, of Brownsdale, a former longtime area homemaker, died Tuesday afternoon (May 24, 1994) at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow where she had resided five years.
Gretchen Esther Hillman was born Jan. 20, 1905, in Worth County, Iowa, and attended Hartland School No. 2. She lived in the Brownsdale area most of her life. On Dec. 26, 1924, she married Oscar M. Gabriel in Northwood, Iowa. Her husband died Nov. 6, 1992. Mrs. Gabriel was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was active in church groups and organizations.
Survivors include two sons, Glennis of Alden, Minn., LaVerne of Brownsdale; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a sister, Luella (Mrs. Fritz) Torgerson of Northwood, Iowa. Five brothers and a sister preceded her in deaeth.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Vernon Funeral Home in Brownsdale and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
