Cpl. Noble Dewey No: 1357
Regiment/Service: Cambridgeshire Regiment, 1st Bn.
D.O.W. 4 Mar. 1915
Son of Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Dewey, of 6, Searle St., Cambridge.

Extract From The Cambridge Chronicle March 12, 1915
INTIMATION has been received this week of the first casualties in the 1st Cambridgeshire Regiment, which went to the Front about three weeks ago, and it is with regret that we record the death of Corpl, Noble Dewey, of B Company No. 5 Section, who was shot by a sniper on Wednesday in last week. Pte. Northfield was wounded in the arm. Certain Companies of the 1st Cambs. Regiment have been sent up to the Front in order to gain experience of the general conditions, and Corpl. Dewey accompanied his Company to the reserve trenches. Whilst he was getting into the trench he was shot through the lungs by a sniper. It was evident to his companions that he was severely wounded and Corpl. Dewey was removed to hospital, where he expired a few hour afterwards. The news of “Nobby” Dewey’s death has been received with widespread regret in Cambridge, and it will come as a great blow to athletes throughout the county. Dewey was known at sports meetings over a wide area as trainer of Reg. Player, the Cambridge racing cyclist. He was a member of the Town and County Cycling Club, and carried a great reputation as a trainer. He was popular with all whom he met, and his genial disposition won for him the cordial regard of the men in his Company - just as it had secured for him the esteem of his fellow members of the Town and County Cycling Club.

1 Cambs War Diary 4/3/15 BOESCHEPE :Major SAINT reported two casualties in his company- one NCO. died of wounds and one man wounded. The company were employed in digging communication trenches and redoubt
