J. Leonard Troutwine, Pennsylvania Hotel, one of the oldest active hotelmen in Central Pennsylvania and one of the three pioneer active businessmen in Tyrone, died this morning at the Pennsylvania Hotel at 5:30 o'clock, following an illness of a week from bronchitis. Mr. Troutwine had not been in good health for the past two years.
J. Leonard Troutwine was born at Tyrone Pa., October 28, 1861, a son of George and Catherine (Ehman) Troutwine, and has resided continuously since three months of age at the Pennsylvania Hotel. In 1888, at Huntingdon Pa., he was united in marriage with Miss Frances Grove.
Surviving are the wife, two brothers, John and William Troutwine, and one sister, Mrs. Harry Gardner, all of Tyrone. A son, Frank Troutwine, passed away twelve years ago. There are also three granddaughters, Patricia, Christine and Frankie King Troutwine, Hillcrest, Tyrone.
Mr. Troutwine was a member of the old German Lutheran church, later taking membership in the Trinity Episcopal of Tyrone. He was a member of the Altoona Knights of Phthias, of the Tyrone Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a charter member of the Jr. O.U.A.M., a member of the old Hook and Ladder fire company, later of the Neptune fire company and of the Hotelmen's Association. Mr. Troutwine has successfully conducted the Pennsylvania Hotel through the years until it has come to be known as one of the best hotels in Central Pennsylvania. He was a generous personality.
Funeral services will be held in the Pennsylvania Hotel parlors on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. William T. Sherwood, pastor of the Trinity Episcopal church, assisted by Dr. E. M. Morgan, pastor of the English Lutheran church. Interment will be made in Eastlawn cemetery. Friends will be received at the parlors of the hotel after two o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
