Alfred Worland's year of birth to 1839 which does not agree with the 1840 year engraved on the tombstone? His date of birth on his death record was 7 Dec 1839. This was given as his date of birth on his death record. Alfred's Catholic parents were married January 8, 1839 in Scott County, Kentucky. Alfred was born 11 months later. Besides the death record, there is another fact why Alfred could not have been born in 1840. Alfred's brother, Joseph was born March 21, 1841 and died September 12, 1857. His tombstone has disappeared or is unreadable in the cemetery. Alfred's parents had a child every 2 years until his mother died, Elizabeth died in 1849. If Alfred was born December 7, 1840, his brother Joseph would have been born 4 months later, which would be impossible. In the October 23, 1850 Liberty Twp., Shelby County, Indiana census, Alfred is age 10 and his brother Joseph is age 9 which jives with Alfred being born in Dec 1839 (not yet reached his 11th birthday in December in the 1850 census) and Joseph being born 1841 and had already reached his 9th birthday on March 21.
