Cecil George Metcalf, 80, of Manhattan, died Sun., June 9 at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

He was born May 29, 1916 in Cass County, N.D., a son of John E. and Ethel E. Tasker Metcalf. He was schooled in Casselton, N.D. and attended high school in Beach, N.D. He ranched in the Trotters area near Beach for several years and moved to Polson in 1967 and to Manhattan in 1984.

In 1937 he married Bernice Sperry; he later married Bertha Anne Simmons on June 10, 1974 in St. Anthony, Idaho. He had worked as a self-employed carpenter and furniture builder.

He enjoyed his handiwork and talking old times and he loved fishing in his earlier years.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two daughters, Ardelle Adams of Glendive and Annette Mitchell of Sheridan, Wyo.; one brother, Glen Metcalf of Billings; two stepdaughters, Lucille and husband John Cline of Vista, Calif. and Karen and husband Mel McKitrick of Ennis; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Fri., June 14 at the Trotters Church, with burial to follow at Trotters Cemetery near Beach, N.D.

Memorials may be made to the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Home Care Unit.
