Kirby Walls Dawkins, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2005. His gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

He was born July 29, 1913, on the family farm in Callahan County, Texas, to William Henry Dawkins and Clara Elizabeth Walls Dawkins. He was educated in Baird and Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School and Abilene Christian College. An elementary school principal, Kirby was working in McCamey, Texas, when he met and later eloped with Lucille Watson. Lucille was the speech teacher at McCamey High School. She preceded him in death in 1991.

Kirby was employed by Pecos Valley Power and Light, and West Texas Utilities Company. The family, including daughter, Diantha, moved briefly to Rising Star, Texas. Back in McCamey, Kirby was very involved with Little League, the Boy Scouts, Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce. The Boy Scouts honored him with the "Silver Beaver Award" and the Chamber of Commerce named him "Mr. McCamey". At the time of his retirement, he was District Manager with West Texas Utilities. He and Lucille moved to Midland in the 1980's, and Kirby continued his association with the Lions Club as a member of the Downtown Lions Club.

Kirby loved life, enjoyed a good joke and his many friends. His later life was enriched by Mary Thompson, Bessie Estrada and Celia Munoz. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Midland Fire Department, EMS, and the employees of Terrace West Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ross, and his sisters, Marie Clark and Evelyn "Sue" Smith.
