Son of Julius C Smith and Fanny Anway. He went to California between 1850 and 1860. (In 1860 he is in Mattole, CA as a hunter.) In 1870 he is with Nancy and has a child Green in Mattole, Humboldt, California. Ca 1874 he married Marsyllo and had the following children: John Anway, Fanny May, Cora Alice, Andrew, Eldon, Cadis, Calvin, and Elmer Smith. He was a hunter and stock raiser. He lived in Oregon and California after leaving Ohio. In 1900 he is on the Klamath Reservation in Oregon with is wife and children.
