Donell S. Rasmussen, 87, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died from complications of age on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Millcreek Township, Utah while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 4, 1926 in Murray, Utah, the fifth of seven children to Stanley A. Rasmussen and Agness Fitzgerald.

Don grew up in Sandy, attended Sandy Jr. High and Jordan High School where he served as Judge in the student government, was active in music, played football for coach "Snide" Taylor, and graduated in 1944.

He entered the University of Utah later that year, where he was a fierce competitor on the football team, member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and sang in a prize-winning quartet.

Following in the footsteps of his father, from 1946 to 1949 he served an LDS mission to Denmark, where his grandfather had previously served as mission president.

He married Geniel Beck, the love of his life, on September 2, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple.

They moved to Washington, DC and later Mesa, Arizona, where he pursued his insurance business. For ten years, after moving back to Utah, Don was a factory representative throughout the western states for art supply company, Binney & Smith.

The family enjoyed many wonderful times traveling together with Dad in "the territory." For the rest of his working life, he continued as an insurance consultant.

Dad always enjoyed throwing the football with his children and grandchildren, playing word games and listening to Geniel play the piano. He wholeheartedly lived the gospel of Jesus Christ, was loyal to family and friends, and charitable to everyone.

Don served faithfully in many ward and stake callings, including bishop of the Union Seventeenth Ward and later with his wife, Geniel, as original hosts at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and leadership missionaries in the Liberty Ninth Ward, Salt Lake Intercity Mission.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leah (Moedl) Steadman; brothers, Cal (Dottie), Ves (Es), Rulon, and Roy; and grandson, Jeff Rasmussen. Don is survived by his wife and sweetheart of sixty-four years; children, Stan (Chris), Craig (Susan), and Brian (Julie) Rasmussen; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Vaughn; sisters-in-law, Donna (Rulon) and Linda (Roy) Rasmussen; and many wonderful nephews and nieces.

Special appreciation is extended to Debi Poulsen and Mikey Villaegas at Brighton Hospice, the staff at Silverado Senior Living, and Kellie Rasmussen for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Telford LDS Chapel, 1834 East Creek Road (8000 South). Friends and family may attend a viewing at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
Interment will follow in the Sandy City Cemetery, 700 East 9000 South.

We love you, Dad!
