Vester Fitzgerald Rasmussen 1920 ~ 2008 Vester Fitzgerald Rasmussen, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully at Health South Rehabilitation Center on January 13, 2008. Vester was born on June 10, 1920, in Draper, Utah. Reared in a home blessed with happiness and love, he was the third child of Stanley Albert and Agness Elizabeth Fitzgerald Rasmussen. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1937 as the student body president and was quarterback of the 1936 state football championship team. Vester married his sweetheart Esther Crane on September 3, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. During World War II, he served as a captain in the quartermaster corps of the Red Ball Express in Europe. He graduated from the University of Utah with honors in business administration in 1946 and was selected as a charter member of the Beta Gamma Sigma National Scholastic Business Fraternity. Vester was a salesman for American Paper and Supply Company for 39 years, retiring as the vice president of the School Furniture Division. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a bishop in both Idaho Falls and Holladay, Utah. Vester's enduring devotion to the "love of his life" was demonstrated in his compassionate care for her in her last years of declining health. Vester and Esther shared an exemplary marriage of friendship and continued courtship through their 65 years together. As a father, he was supportive and understanding; as a grandfather, unconditionally loving and caring. He blessed all around him with insightful wisdom, maximizing life's joys with his positive attitude, quick wit, and dry sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing and sports. He loved his many friends and extended family, treasuring their companionship his entire life. Vester is survived by his daughters, Kathryn (Lee) Dillon and Jolene (Claron) Twitchell; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Danielle), Bryan (Michelle), and Chris Dillon, Laura (Nathan) Berrett, Jon (Charlotte), Spencer (Sarah), and Eric Twitchell; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Rulon (Donna), Donell (Geniel), Vaughn (Judy) Rasmussen; and sisters-in-law Dorothy and Linda Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Esther, his parents, two brothers Calvin and Roy Rasmussen, and his sister and her husband, Leah R. and Frank Moedl Steadman.
