HOPKINS, Alfred Scott "Bill" WWII
Bill was born on November 21, 1915 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.
He enlisted in Toronto, Ontario on March 1, 1941 and went to
Halifax until he was shipped out with his Division to Britain that
same month. Bill served with the 2nd Division of the Royal Canadian
Active Service Force in Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland
until the time of liberation. Private Hopkins was discharged on
demobilization on March 4, 1946 to return to his mother's farm near
Fairmount, Saskatchewan. While farming there, he met and
married June Peterson, also of Fairmount. They raised four
children. Bill was a member of Flaxcombe Legion Branch 98 before
he passed away on July 9, 1980. His campaign medals included
the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the
Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp
and the War Medal 1939-45.
