Death of Mrs. Douglas.
Mrs. William Douglas died Thursday
morning, Jan. 16, after a short illness
with the grip. Hannah E. Stone was
born at Lancaster, Dec. 9, 1834, the
daughter of Abner and Deborah (Moulton)
Stone. She was one of eight children,
only one of whom is living, a sister,
Mrs. Thomas Comnory, who is at the
advanced age of 93 years, and lives in
Maidstone. August 17, 1853, Hannah
E. Stone was united in marriage to
William Douglas at Lancaster. Eleven
children were born to them: Albert L.,
who lives at St. Johnsbury; Charles H.,
deceased; Frank L.,of Cumberland, Wis.;
William E., of Concord; Flora D. and
Mary L., deceased; Walter L and Hubert
C, of Concord; Herbert S., of Moose
Jaw, Saskatchewan; Mrs. Blanche C.
Currier and Miss Bertha Douglas of
Concord. Mr. Douglas died at Waterbury,
Dec. 24, only about three weeks
before his wife's death. His body was
brought here for burial. Mrs. Douglas
belonged essentially to that class of
home-loving women, whose home and
family are everything, and was very
energetic and industrious. After Mr.
Douglas' health failed she came to the
village to live with her daughter, Mrs.
Blanche Currier, who has given untiring
efforts to make her last years pleasant
and comfortable. Funeral services were
held from her late home Saturday at 10
a. m., Rev. A. M. Smith officiating. Mrs.
Miner Carpenter, Mrs. Cora Bailey and
J. K. Hovey sang. The burial did not
take place until Sunday afternoon, owing
to the delay of a son, Frank Douglas,
who came on from Cumberland, Wis.,
and could not reach here until Sunday
afternoon. Those called here to attend
the funeral were Frank L. Douglas of
Cumberland, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Bryer, Roy Bryer, Miss Jennie Under
wood, Albert Douglas, Frank Reed, Mrs.
George Howard, Arthur Lang, all of St.
Johnsbury, and William Douglas of
Northfield.
