AGATHA MAHER, 84
Agatha Maher, age 84, of Osakis, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2002 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Agatha Bernice Berray was born on January 2, 1918 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Guy and Nellie (Peters) Berray. ON March 25, 1927 she was married in Ada, Minnesota to Steve E. Maher. They farmed near Ada for a short time before moving to a farm south of Osakis in 1938. They farmed until their retirement in 1991 when they moved into a home on Oak Street in Osakis. Agatha was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osakis and belonged to the United Methodist Church Women.
Agatha enjoyed farm life and living close to nature. She raised a large garden each year and her family always looked forward to delicious jams and jellies from her large strawberry patch. She was also a talented cook who was famous for her homemade breads and cinnamon rolls. When friends came over for a game of Whist they were sure to enjoy a good lunch afterwards. Aggie liked to do quilting, needlework and embroidery during the long winter months and looked forward to getting out fishing in the summer time.
Agatha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Christie Maher of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Rod and Maren Thornbloom of Eden Prairie; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve in 1997; daughter Geraldine Thornbloom; brother Kenneth Berray; and three sisters: Bernadette Gilbertson, Veronica Hoven and Coletta Burns.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Osakis with Reverend Alice Tobler officiating. Music was provided by organist Marj Lang and soloist Dana Hetland. Interment was at the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson.
Active pallbearers were Julius Massman, Newton Earl, Jr., Pete Rutten, Larry Zarbok, Harlan Tenhoff, and Walt Santer. Honorary pallbearers were Viola Walen, Lois Jensen, Mona Abbas, Barb DeCann, Delores Trisko and Lois Hendricks.
