Dr. Rudolph "Richard" Renner born March 5, 1896 in Hundred, W.VA, was the son of Barnett "Barney" Renner and Mary Angeline "Angie" Renner (nee Gump). He died April 12, 1979 age 82 at home in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He was 5 ft 6 inches tall with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.

He married in 1925 in Wheeling, W.VA, Jennie Louise (nee Steindorf). She was born Oct 12, 1897 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Otto William Steindorf & Jennie Trout. She died March 14, 1992 in a Cleveland nursing home at age 94. She graduated June 1920 from Bethany College & taught Ceramic Design at Wheeling, W.VA High School. He met Jennie his senior year when she was a freshman at Bethany College.

DR RENNER'S PARENTS: Mary Angeline Renner (nee Gump) born April 1864 in PA, died Sept 15, 1964 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. (Ora Cecil) Mason of 2680 North Moreland Blvd, Cleveland, OH, formerly of Hundred, W.VA where her funeral was held. Per Mary Angeline Gump Renner's obituary, her husband died in WV in 1937.

Dr. Renner was sent to Bethany [W.VA] Preparatory School & College at age 15. That year at the old "Bethany Meeting House" he joined the Christian church which had no baptistry so instead of being baptized in Buffalo Creek, they were baptized seven miles away at the Wellsburg Church on the Ohio River.

June 1917 Dr Renner was ordained and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Bethany College at age 21. By August 1917 he was serving in the US Army in WWI -one month's basic training at Allentown, PA, then sailed on the "S.S. Lapland" to the Base at Angers in South France. Thousands of soldiers died in battle and from the flu epidemic of 1918-1919. Richard was discharged April "Fools" day 1919. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio and began serving as an Extern in Lakeside Hospital. To supplement his income, Richard became pastor of the Disciple Church in North Royalton and stayed with them seven and a half years!

While in Medical School he worked at the May Co. on the Square as a floor walker. After graduating in 1923 he interned at Cleveland City Hospital (now Metropolitan General), then was served his residency at the Cleveland Clinic for two years, assisting Dr. George Crile, Sr. the world-renowned goitre surgeon. He and Jennie raised their 5 children in Cleveland.
