Nell Selander (nee Renner) was born September 22, 1906 in Hundred, West Virginia, the daughter of Barnett "Barney" Renner and Sarah E. Bissett. She died at age 103, September 6, 2010 a resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Her husband, Milton Clarence Selander, an attorney was born May 24, 1904 in Iowa, the son of Sven E Selander & Hannah Nelson. He died Aug 7, 1993 in Naples, FL at age 89.

Nell was born in Hundred, West VA during the Theodore Roosevelt presidency, the youngest of five children. As a child she believed that her name was "Nellie Sweetheart". She was a graduate of the University of W. VA and earned a Masters Degree in English from the University of Michigan in 1934. Nell was an avid reader and an accomplished pianist. For many years she swam a mile three times a week at the Women's City Club and the Detroit Boat Club. Nell loved her family; playing bridge; attending plays and Michigan University football. She was an active member of Central Woodward Christian Church and its "Round Table" group. She enjoyed traveling in South America, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. In her mid eighties she snorkeled in the Cayman Islands and went white water rafting in Tennessee.

A celebration of Nell's life was held Saturday September 11, 2010 at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive in Rochester, Michigan. Nell's husband, Milton was buried in Lost Grove Cemetery, Harcourt, Iowa.
