She was a graduate of the University of W. VA and earned a Masters Degree in English from the University of Michigan in 1934. Nell was an avid reader and an accomplished pianist. For many years she swam a mile three times a week at the Women's City Club and the Detroit Boat Club. Nell loved her family; playing bridge; attending plays and Michigan University football. She was an active member of Central Woodward Christian Church and its "Round Table" group. She enjoyed traveling in South America, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. In her mid eighties she snorkeled in the Cayman Islands and went white water rafting in Tennessee.
A celebration of Nell's life was held Saturday September 11, 2010 at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive in Rochester, Michigan. Nell's husband, Milton was buried in Lost Grove Cemetery, Harcourt, Iowa.
