Lt. Cmdr, Peter Miller (USCG ret) was born on June 21, 1884 in Cincinnati Ohio. He left home at the age of 15, joined the United States Navy and served in the Spanish American War. He served in the Navy in World War I, then in the United States Merchant Marine and retired from the United States Coast Guard as a Lieutenant Commander in 1946 with a total of 33 years service.

Peter married Gertrude E. Wardell in Seattle on December 8th, 1925. They had many homes, living in Astoria, Oregon, Bremerton and Port Angeles Washington, Oakland and San Francisco California and New York City. They finally settled in Tacoma in 1943.

He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Joseph Warren Lodge No 235, F&AM, John R. Thompson Post Spanish American War Veterans, the Warrant Officers Association, Afifi Temple of the Shrine, the National Sojourners, the Heroes of the '76 and the Tacoma Chapter of the Retired Officers Association.

He was survived by his wife Gertrude Wardell Miller and one son, Peter C. Miller, both now deceased.
