He was born on August 22, 1920 in Davidson County, NC to Coy Beck and Hattie Ensley Beck.
He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries, where he worked at both Plant T and Plant L. He was a tobacco farmer for over 30 years and also raised hogs and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where he was a former usher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Beck and three sisters, Iola Harris, Clarice Griffin, and Zula Mae Beck.
On November 29, 1941, he married Ethel Elizabeth Thornburg, who survives of the home; also surviving in addition to his wife of 72 years are a son, Larry Beck of the home; daughter, Joyce Beck Imbler of Thomasville; brother, Paul Beck of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Weldon Imbler, II, Glenn Imbler and wife Debby, Melody Imbler Hooker and husband Brian, and Lisa Imbler Sink and husband Kevin; and three great-grandchildren, Chase Imbler and wife Christina, Alexandra Imbler, and Connor Sink.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Fairview United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Crady officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
