Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company D, 15th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on July 24, 1862. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on April 10, 1863, commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company B on July 3, 1864, and promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company G on September 10, 1864.

He was honorably mustered out on June 22, 1865.

On August 25, 1875 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #207404, Certificate #262915).

On August 16, 1890 his wife, Maggie A. Ackerson, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #431349, Certificate #312346).
