Joseph (Giusippe) Abbot, 88, of 810 E. Hickory St., died at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Solon Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

He was born April 27, 1896 in Palermo, Sicily. He married Maria Luise on April 27, 1921 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Streator. She died January 14, 1984.

Surviving are five sons: Gerlardo Sylvester "Jerry" Abbot of Tustin, California and Angelo Abbot of Gainesville, Florida; Michael Simanello and John Simanello, both of Streator, and James Simanello of LeMesa, California; three daughters: Sarah Abbot Mars and Millie (Eddie) Armstrong, both of Streator, and Josephine (Earl) Lieske of Ottawa; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

A United States Army veteran of World War I, he resided in Streator since 1918. A member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a life member of the American Legion Post 217, he retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Company in 1961.
