The inscription reads: "Erected to the memorie of Richard Read of Quinsborough, Co. Kildare, Eq., who died 24th.dec 1825 aged 67 years, and of Catherine, his wife, who died 22nd. July 1803, aged 48. Beneath this stone are deposited the Remains of Mary Anne, wife of Joseph Watkins, Esq., of Elem Park, Merrien, and only daughter of the above Richard and Catherine Read, born the 1st. of January 1792, died 25th. June 1842. Also the remains of Joseph Watkins, Esq. of Elem Park, Merrien, born the 20th. of August 1785, died the 13th. of July 1864. Here are deposited the remains of Henry Read of Quinsborough, Co. Kildare, Esq., born 1st. of November 1790, died 2nd. of March 1867, son of the above Richard and Catherine Read. Mary Elizabeth Sterling, born 23rd. of April 1780, died 11th. of Sept. 1864. Walsh Sculpt. Carlow."
