In March 1881, Benjamin Siegel opened Siegel's Cloaks, Suits & Furs on Woodward Ave., in Detroit. He started Detroit's first store to specialize in women's wear, one of the first such retail ventures in the nation. The B. Siegel Co., flagship store was located at 1075 Woodward Ave.
