Son of William Craig who served in Revolutionary War, he served in War of 1812, applying for pension September 7, 1871, Ohio County WV. He volunteered in Captain Lawrence's Virginia Brigade, at Front Royal, Shenandoah County, Virginia on August 10, 1813. He was honorably discharged at Camp Holly, Richmond, VA, February 10, 1814.

A contributor advised of affidavit for marriage to Nancy Cain July 20 1816, Woodstock, Shenandoah, VA. Although there is a Virginia marriage record July 9, 1821, the Craig family appears on 1820 census, Smith Twp, Belmont County Ohio. Two adults and two females under age 10.

It is thought they had between 12 and 14 children.

The John Craig family is listed on the 1830 and 1840 censuses, Ohio County, Virginia/WV.

A son William Craig born abt 1823 appears on the 1850 census, Ohio County, Virginia/WV, a farmer, with wife Ann 23 born Penna and two children John T 3 and Sarah 5 months.
He had married Anna C Feisel/Ligafiese. William Craig age 37 died in Wheeling Jan 11, 1860. His widow married widower John Turner in 1861, Ohio County, VA/WV. Anna appears as widow of John Turner on the 1890 Veterans Schedule, Martins Ferry, Ohio. He served in Co K, 15th Reg West Virginia Infantry and died in 1883 Martins Ferry.

John and Nancy appear on the 1850 census, Ohio County, Virginia/WV, with children Alexander 17, Samuel 15, John 11 and James 10.
They live adjacent to James and Jane Craig family.

Listed in Wheeling on 1860 census, with children Alex, Samuel, John, James, John, Sarah and Betsy. There are also 4 Cabell/Cable children listed.

Son James Craig last appears on the 1880 census Martins Ferry, Ohio, 40, single, glass house worker, with widowed mother Nancy and single brother Samuel 45.

Their son Samuel is listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedule, Martins Ferry Ohio, having served in Civil War, Union, Private, Company K, 1st Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry, 1861 to 1865. rank out Corporal.
Samuel's pension record indicates he applied for an invalid pension in 1889.
