CHURCHWARD On 5th January 1924 at her residence Pallas Street, Maryborough, Johanna beloved wife of Abraham Churchward - aged 84 years and 11 months.

OBITUARY
The death occurred at her residence, Pallas Street, on Saturday at noon, of Mrs Johanna Churchward, in her 85th year. The deceased, who was born at Totnes, Devonshire, came out to Australia with her husband in the year 1863 in the ship "Silhet", settling in Bundaberg. Later the couple came to Maryborough where the late Mrs Churchward had resided ever since. She is survived by a family of four sons and three daughters - Messrs Fred and Edwin (both of Urangan), William (Bundaberg), and Albert Churchward (Boonooroo), and Mesdames James Crane, P. Barton and J. Ammenhauser (Maryborough). The funeral of the late Mrs Churchward took place yesterday afternoon from her late residence.

Johanna Churchward, relict of the late Mr. A. Churchward, pioneer colonist of the Burnett and Wide Bay. The deceased lady, who was in her 85th year, was born at Totnes, Devonshire, England, and arrived at Burnett Heads, Bundaberg, with her husband, in the sailing ship "Silhet", on September 18th, 1883 - just over 50 years ago - the jubilee anniversary of the arrival having recently been celebrated in Bundaberg with much eclat. Shortly after landing in Queensland Mr. and Mrs. Churchward went to Maryborough where they conducted a dairy for some time. The Bundaberg district was rapidly coming into prominence and the enterprising couple decided upon leaving Maryborough and trying their fortune in the "new land". Accordingly they selected a farm at Bullyard on the Mount Perry line. There they lived for a number of years, their energy meeting with success. Upon retiring they returned to Maryborough, making their home in Pallas street, where they continued to reside to the end of their days. The deceased lady is survived by a family of four sons and three daughters, Messrs. Fred and Edwin (both of Urangan), William H. C. (Bundaberg) and Albert Churchward (Boonooroo), and Mesdames James Crane, F. Barton and J. Ammenhauser (Maryborough), thirty grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, to whom sympathy will be extended in their bereavement. Mr. W. Churchward is at present on a visit to Central Western Queensland and is not expected home in Bundaberg for some days. The funeral of the late Mrs. Churchward took place on Sunday afternoon from her late residence. The pall bearers at the residence and cemetery were Messrs. J. F. Churchward (son of deceased), N. Churchward, and A. and A. Ammenhauser (grandsons), and J. C. Ammenhauser (son-in-law). The Rev. F. H. Smith officiated at the residence and the graveside.
