Married: Clara Deatherage 23 Nov 1876 in Knox Co., IL. Three daughters born to them, all died in early childhood. The three daughters are almost certainly Maud and Mary, buried in the Simms plot in Rio Cemetery, Knox Co., IL, and Katie, buried in the same lot as his wife, Clara, in Oakland Cemetery, Grundy Co., IA. Clara died in 1902.
In 1883, James accompanied his brother, Isaac Newton, and his family in removing to Custer Co., NE. Sometime between 1883 and 1888, James removed to Grundy Co., IA, where two of his brothers (George & William) had settled earlier.
