Macfarlane, Sarah, also known as Sarah Van Gieson, 88, of Honolulu died Friday in Honolulu; She was a retired executive director at the State Department of Budget and Finance. Services will be private. Graveside services will be at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Oahu Cemetery. Mrs. Macfarlane was born in Honolulu. She is survived by two sons, William E. Paikuli III and F. Walter Macfarlane III; three daughters, Genevieve Gray, Lydia Cluney and Jacqueline Watson; a stepson, Wayatt Macfarlane; a stepdaughter, Muriel Flandes; three brothers, E.C. Hobron, Ellwood and Donald Van Gieson; a sister, Leinani Rodenhurst; 14 grandchildren and four great-great-Grandchildren. Williams Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
