Betty J. Bush, 52, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Betty was born in Fort Atkinson, WI, on May 25, 1953, to Harold Arthur Roth and Pauline Johanna (Langholff) Roth. Her father passed away when she was nine, and she grew up with her family on her uncle Clarence Langholff’s farm in Oakland Center. Betty graduated from Cambridge High School in 1971 and married Peter Dempsey. They raised their four children in the Jefferson Area. While her children were younger, Betty began working at St. Colleta’s in Jefferson as a caregiver. She found great rewards in helping the young residents there, and proceeded to pursue a career in nursing. While working nights, going to school during the day, plus spending time with her children, she graduated from MATC with an associate degree in Nursing. She started working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Countryside Home in Jefferson where she continued working there until 2005. On July 29, 2005, she married Donald Bush and lived in the house they built in Albion. Betty was a certified master gardener who loved to garden and left a legacy of beautiful flowers everywhere she lived. She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, walking, and dancing. Most of all, Betty thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and could always be counted on to whip up a military size batch of food for any occasion. Betty had anxiously been awaiting the arrival of her fourth grandchild that was born six hours after she died. Betty also loved her job; partially for her strong work ethic, but mostly because she loved being a nurse and giving care and love to her residents. Her passing was preceded by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Donald Bush of Albion and his children: Amanda Bush of Chicago, IL, and Molly Bush (Shane Lettman) of San Diego, CA; by her daughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Kienbaum of Fort Atkinson, by her sons, Greg (Lynn) Dempsey of Jefferson, Neil (Hannah) Dempsey of Jefferson, and by her daughter Kerry (Brent Dahnert) of Fort Atkinson; by her grandchildren: Conner Kienbaum, Eden Dempsey, baby Haden Dempsey, Lauren Dempsey, and Brent’s daughters: Mikaela, Katlyn, and Mackenzy Dahnert. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary (Larry) Schneider of Fort Atkinson, and 4 brothers: Robert (Kathy) Roth of Jefferson, Dennis (Joann) Roth of Fort Atkinson, Richard Roth of Lake Mills, and Thomas Roth of Fort Atkinson; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
