Phoebe CLARK, daughter of Thomas and Rhoda CLARK, was born Oct. 2, 1839, between the forks of the White River and Eel River, in Greene County, near the Owen County line. She was married to Isaac BROWN, Jan. 2, 1867, to which union was born five children, three of whom are living; two having preceded her to the Heavenly Home, those being Ida, her third oldest child died when an infant, and Mrs. Anna HEDRICK, her fourth oldest child, died April 1, 1901; the granddaughter, Susannah HEDRICK, died Sept 7, 1901. Those living are her husband, Isaac BROWN, and three children, U. M. BROWN, of near Sullivan; Mrs. Emmett GRAY, of Terre Haute; and Mrs. Walter STALCUP, of Switz City. Also one sister, Miss Nan CLARK, and one brother, Cyrus CLARK, all of whom were with her during her last days of sickness. She died May 31, 1905, after an illness of nine weeks. She joined the Regular Baptist church in Christ about the year 1870, and lived a devoted and faithful Christian the rest of her life. She was a woman of such excellent qualities that to know her was to love and honor her. Short funeral services were held at the home in Switz City, where she had lived for seventeen years, after which she was taken to the Salem Church in Wright Township for interment. The funeral was preached by Rev. J. BAKER assisted by L. HANNAH, in the presence of many friends and relatives. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
