An Old Kentucky Citizen.

{To the Editor of the Courier-Journal.}

GHENT, Jan. 11. --- You published in a late issue of your paper a list of persons who have attained very great ages, some of whom are still living, but no mention is made in that list of Mr. William Demint, of Carroll county, Ky., who is now ninety-years old. Mr. Demint was born in January 1784, at the mouth of Beargrass, where Louisville now stands. His father, Mr. Jarrett Demint, told your correspondent, many years since, that his son William was the first white child born where that prosperous city now stands. Mr. William Demint is now living on a tract of land on the south side of Kentucky river on which his father settled very early in this century; hence "Uncle Billy," as he is familiarly called, has lived more than an ordinary lifetime at the same spot, and no more honorable man ever lived in this country. He was the father of Mrs. Col. S. S. English, late of your county, and he survives all his children.

CARROLLTON (Ky.) Democrat: Uncle Billie Demint, of this county, was ninety-nine years old on the 22d of January. He seems to be in better health now than for several years past. Uncle Billie thinks he will live another year and become a centenarian without any trouble and, indeed, the indications are that he will live several years beyond his five score. His sight and hearing have improved very much of late, and he seems more cheerful than he has been for some time past, though he never was anything but holly. All eyes are upon Uncle Billie.
