Harlow John Jones Jr., 74, of Darien, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville as the result of a sudden illness. Harlow was born Sep. 26, 1931 in Milton Township, the son of Harlow Sr. and Bonnie(Bassett) Jones. He attended Whitewater City High School and then joined the Navy in 1952, during the Korean Conflict. Harlow served on the USS Bon Homme Richard, the USS Los Angeles 135 and the USS Shasta AE6 and was discharged in March of 1956. Harlow married Donna Mae Taylor on May 4, 1957 at First United Methodist Church in Janesville. He was employed as a Back Hoe Operator for Ivan Rice and Sons Excavating from 1957-74. Harlow then worked as a Mechanic, rebuilding and restoring a collection of classic Ford Thunderbirds for Scharine's Farm Systems for the next 11 years. Harlow retired from United States Gypsum in Walworth in 1993. Harlow was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and the William Graham American Legion Post 173 in Whitewater. He was active in the Johnstown 4-H Club, serving as a leader of various projects since 1967. Harlow enjoyed raising and showing rabbits with his family and serving as the rabbit project leader with the Johnstown 4-H Club beginning in 1969. From 1984 on, he also served as the Superintendent for the Rabbit Department at the Rock County 4-H Fair. Harlow liked to watch his son Jeff compete in drag races, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include his wife, Donna; 3 sons, Jeff (Lynor) Jones of Beloit, Scott (Sarah) Jones of Fort Atkinson and Rod Jones of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Andy Jones and Desiree Jones, both of Janesville; 2 nephews and 1 niece.
