Daniel committed suicide via strychnine poisoning at the Union Hotel Bar. He lost all of his money when a mining deal fell through, and he spent his last few cents on the poison and a drink to take it with.
Several physicians were called in an attempt to save him, and he was taken to the police station and then to the county hospital before he died in the early morning hours of September 23, 1909.
