Margaret was born on 22 June 1850, at the Winiridge Farm near Avonbridge in the Parish of Muiravonside, Stirlingshire Scotland. She was baptized on 12 August 1850. She was one of 6 children born to William Reid and Marion Johnston. Her first husband was William Johnston and they were married on 3 July 1873 in the Muiravonside Parish, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Margaret and William were the parents of 11 children and they emigrated to Canada in 1905 and settled in the Orillia area where other Reids and Johnstons had previously settled. Her first husband William Johnston died in 1894 in a boiler explosion in a sawmill in Glen Hazel, Pennsylvania. She married her second husband James Edmonstone on 15 June 1910 in Orillia, Simcoe Co., Ontario.
