Mrs. Carroll Bullock Wood, devoted wife and mother, was called home to be with her Savior Our Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 27, 2014. Carroll was born Nov. 22, 1922 in Walthall County, the eldest child of Marshall Ellzey Bullock and Essie Dampeer Bullock. Carroll received her college education from Hillman College in Clinton Mississippi. It was during her tenure at Hillman that Carroll met the love of her life, Dr. James Powers Wood. Jim and Carroll forged their life together settling in Waynesboro in 1966.

Mrs. Wood had a genuine love and concern for people and will always be remembered by those who met and knew her for her warm smile and kind words. She was a member of First Baptist Church Waynesboro and also active in her community serving on the Wayne County Democratic Committee, the Waynesboro Library Board and the Waynesboro Little Theatre as Talent Chairman for the 1980 Follies. Mrs. Wood was the first woman elected to serve on the Waynesboro Country Club Board of Directors. In addition to the aforementioned areas she also served as President of the Waynesboro Fortnightly Club, President of the Mississippi CowBelles and as a member of the Waynesboro Home and Garden Club.

Carroll was preceded in death by her husband Dr. James P. Wood, parents Marshall and Essie Bullock, younger brother Marion Ellzey Bullock, eldest son James Powers Wood, Jr., eldest daughter Anne Carroll Wood Beauvais (Henry). Visitation for Mrs. Wood will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, September 29, 2014 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. DeJuan Walley officiating. Interment will be in Waynesboro Cemetery.
