PRINCEVILLE - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Scherler Birgam, 91, of Princeville passed away at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Peoria, the daughter of Herbert S. and Gladys Catlin Edwards. She first married Roy W. Scherler on Dec. 4, 1942, and he passed away Dec. 17, 1955. She later married Charles Birgam on March 17, 1979, in Peoria, and he passed away March 5, 2007.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Jody L. (Roger) Wilkerson of Washington and Cindy S. (Joe) Brone of Princeville; one son, Robert K. (Carol) Scherler of Elmwood; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two honorary daughters, Edna Schurter and Sharon Moore; and four honorary grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Charles (Ellora) Edwards of Elmwood.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, H. Oscar Edwards and Robert Edwards; and one granddaughter, Lizabeth A. Scherler.
Betty was an assistant superintendent at Buehler Home in Peoria, retiring in 1985. She previously worked as an administrator at Barbara Smiley Living Center and as an accountant for Dr. James Kopp with Hematology-Oncology in Peoria.
She was a member of First Free Methodist Church in Peoria. She also was a member of the Peoria Area Christian Business Women's Club in Peoria and also Parents Without Partners.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. The Rev. John Edwards will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, also at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
