A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty in Harrisburg August 22, 1864, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. B, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865.
He worked many jobs during his post-war years that are listed in the accompanying obituary. He died at the stated age of fifty-three reportedly from cholera.
On April 12, 1890, Mary applied for a widow's pension and received it.
