An interesting account of business-man David Kyle's get-together with his future son-in-law, Hugh Campbell:

He [Hugh Campbell] set foot in New York City on September 6 and managed to find the captain of the Perseverance, who was wearing some of his clothes and had already spent the money stowed in his trunk. Hugh's luck did not turn until he reached Philadelphia on September 14. Fellow Irish immigrants from County Tyrone advised him to seek employment with David Kyle, who owned a growing mercantile business with outlets in Richmond, Virginia, and Raleigh and Milton, North Carolina. Kyle hired Hugh as a clerk at his store in Milton. In time, Kyle would be much more than a boss, for Hugh later married his daughter Mary.
