Vi (Farrell) Hagen, 91, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a tough rough road of ruts, bumps, washouts, steep hills, low valleys and other ailments, and a stormy climatic life. Vi finally found the smooth pavement, and bit the dust, and hopefully touched a little bit of Ireland on her way to the great beyond heaven. She will be remembered for her Irish wit, temper, compassion and thoughtfulness toward others. She was a lover of nature. Vi called it like it was a spade for a spade. As she said, its been hell on earth at times, so I should have a good hereafter. Viola was born on April 17, 1914, to the late Lyman F. and Sylvia (Gretzmacher) Farrell in Union Township, Rock County. She spent most of her adult life in Madison, WI, and was a member of St. Raphael’s Church for over sixty years. Vi was an honest, hardworking individual who was more concerned for others than herself. Toward the end God chose a number and Vi was the lucky winner. She will be truly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Roger Jack of 53 years; her son, Jerry Thompson of Madison; her daughter, Bonnie Nelson of Madison; her 4 grandchildren: Tania (Jeff) Holzhueter of Waterloo, Troy (Missy) Thompson of Sun Prairie, Amy (Randy) Huffman and Chris Coster of Madison; her 7 great-grandchildren: Lacey Huffman, Eliza Coster-Hergert, Evan, Brandon and Makenna Holzhueter, Madeline and Danielle Thompson; sisters, Elaine Olson of Evansville, WI, and Doris Severson of Janesville; brother-in-law, Jim Hagen; sister-in-law, Marylin Hagen of Evansville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
