Medical doctor and writer; born Maria Hedwig Straub. Her third husband was Fritz Mauthner, a Jewish philosopher and writer who died in 1923. When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Straub, as the widow of a Jew, was made to wear a yellow star, and the honorary citizenship of Meersburg that she had received in 1919, was rescinded. It was restored in 1949.
