ROBERT GILMORE was the son of JAMES GILMORE and MARTHA DENNISON and born in about 1752 in that part of Augusta County, Virginia that is now Rockbridge County, Virginia. He was married to SARAH ELLEN BEATTIE, who was from Carrs [Kerrs] Creek in Rockbridge County, Virginia and they were married there in about 1773. They had three children that we know of. ROBERT GILMORE was an Ensign in the Virginia Militia when they fought Chief Cornstalk and his band of Shawnee Indians in the Battle of Kanawha [also known as the Battle of Point Pleasant] along the Kanawha River in what was then part of Virginia, but now located in Mason County, West Virginia near Point Pleasant. He was one of the casualties following of the battle's aftermath.
