STANNARD – At Alder Creek, N.Y., on Saturday, May 22, 1943, Mrs. Melvia G. Stannard, widow of Jay C. Stannard, aged 83 years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville. Interment will be at North Steuben.

Mrs. Stannard, 83, Dies at Son’s Home
Alder Creek May 24 – Mrs. Melvia G. Stannard, 83, who pioneered in the Far West more than 60 years ago, traveling there in a covered wagon, died Saturday in the home of her son, F. Kernan Stannard, where she had lived for several years.
She was born in North Western April 21, 1860, the daughter of John S. and Sara Fox Neaskern. She was married to Jay Stannard March 10, 1880, in the Town of Western.
In 1881, the couple journeyed to Fort Collins, Colo., and several years later moved to South Dakota. They traveled once more a few years later finally making their home in Aurora, Mo. They lived in the West from 1881 to 1898 and then returned to North Western where Mr. Stannard became a farmer.
He died in 1932 and three years later Mrs. Stannard moved to Alder Creek to live with her son. She was a member of the Methodist Church of North Steuben.
Surviving are two sons, Francis K. Alder Creek and Brian, Boonville; five daughters, Mrs. George Emmett, Fall River, Mass.; Mrs. Charles Cavanaugh, Holland Patent; Mrs. Ada Boody, Boonville and Miss Elizabeth and Miss Anna, Utica; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trainer Funeral Home, Boonville, with the Rev. Robert U. Holmes officiating. Burial will be in North Steuben.
