CLAUDE SELF SERVICES
Funeral services for Claude LaVerne Self, 65 of La Plata, were held Sunday afternoon at the La Plata Christian Church. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery under direction of the Goodding Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Mr. Self died Friday morning at his home in La Plata. He had been in failing health with a heart condition, however, death was unexpected.
Born June 18, 1910 in Macon County, near La Plata, he was the son of Marion Crit and Nora Ethel (Farmer) Self. On Dec. 20, 1934 he married Edith Mae Wilson, who survives. Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Harold Self of Centralia, J.P. Self of La Plata, Marion Self of Bussey, Iowa, Carlyle Self of Udall, Kansas, Beulah Cameron of San Leandro, California, Mrs. Bernard (Virginia) Alberts of Mt. Hebron, California, Mrs. Don (Esther) Caldwell of Allerton, Iowa, Mrs. Edward (Thelma) Bergess of Steelville, and Blanche Gammill of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sister, and two brothers.
Mr. Self spent most of his life in the La Plata community. He was self-employed and had worked as a custodian at the La Plata High School and the La Plata Nursing Home.
He was a member of the La Plata Christian Church and the Lion's Club.
