Arnold was one of many sons of Anton and Christina Jacob.

Early in his life, he worked for John Chattilon Scale Co. on Cliff St, NY. Through the constant lifting of weights to calibrate the scales, Arnold developed intensly strong arm muscles.

Arnold struggled through the great depression years trying to feed his small family. There were many weeks where the only income was the salary my mother garnered doing housework at the Kygers one day a week. Occasionaly, my father supplemented his meager income by tending bar. He once took a chance by purchasing $100 worth of stock in a gold mine and when that failed, he vowed to never take a chance again. He passed up a chance to go into the hardware business with a fellow worker because it meant a few dollars to start the business. The last time I looked, this store is still in business.

My father was a real buddy to me and never failed to encourage me in my endeavors, whether it was in tropical fish, fishing, soccer, baseball and pinochle. I was impressed by this comraderie and the strength in his arms.
