Hendrine F. Brink, 87, of Worthington, Minnesota, formerly of Alton, died Saturday, May 17, at her residence.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at American Reformed Church in Worthington, with the Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen officiating. Burial was in Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Brink was born June 9, 1920, to Andrew and Christine (Ruisch) Van Der Maaten. She was raised near Alton, where she attended school through the eighth grade.
She married Norman B. Brink on August 21, 1942, and accompanied him to Hanover, California, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, returning to Iowa when he went overseas.
After his military service, they farmed near Maurice for one year before moving to a farm near Rushmore, Minnesota, in 1948. She lived on the farm until moving into the Meadows in Worthington in 2006. In addition to helping on the farm, she also worked as a waitress.
To escape the cold winters, they traveled to Brownsville, Texas for 15 years, beginning in 1979, where she enjoyed dancing, playing cards and walking.
She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore and a current member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington. After her husband died, she volunteered at the Headstart and Rushmore Preschool and always looked forward to "seeing the little ones."
She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing books with others.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Don and Kris Brink of Rushmore, Nancy and Roger Mussetter of Menomonee, Wisconsin, and Gary and Phyllis Brink of Rushmore; nine grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Van Der Maaten of Orange City.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hofmeyer; and two brothers, Frank and Willard Van Der Maaten. The family requests memorials be given to the American Reformed Church in Worthington.
